Bullseye

I worked with a few folks at Parliament to design and build an interactive installation for our Design Week Portland 2016 open house. We discovered a way to combine indoor archery with generative art—because why not?—and provided each attendee the opportunity to walk away with their own unique digital souvenir to share on social media.

Thirteen individual piezo vibration sensors on the back of the target were wired to a single Arduino Mega microcontroller. The data from those sensors allowed us to determine the general location and force of each arrow strike. Using a server running Node and Three.js, we leveraged the sensor data from each participant’s five arrow shots to build them a one-of-a-kind, 3D, low-poly planetoid.
