Light Field

For Pickathon’s 2016 music festival, I collaborated with six incredibly talented individuals to create an interactive light installation. Inspired by the forest environment it’d live in, we spent over six months concepting, prototyping, and assembling nearly 40 reed-like, networked LED units that responded to touch input from festival-goers.

Each unit contained a meter-long strip of RGB LEDs and an accelerometer. Groups of eight were connected via ethernet cables to Arduino Mega microcontrollers, and each of the microcontrollers were then connected to a single Raspberry Pi running Node.

The dream team: John Brown, Lucas Swick, Nick Ostini, Katie McHugh, Mike Weihs, and Beda Calhoun
