Dad Notes

Note: This project is ongoing. I’ll continue to add to this page as I make progress, so please check back.

I think the hardest part about having a full-time job is having to kiss my family goodbye each morning as I head off to work for the day. I absolutely love what I do for a living, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to provide for my family, but there’s always a little twinge in my heart when I walk out the door. I know that all working parents can relate to this. Technology is certainly making it easier—my wife can send me photos via iMessage or I can peek at my son’s crib via our Dropcam, for example. I love the idea of being able to send my family notes throughout the day, but would rather not have them be in the form of text messages, if I can help it. I started thinking about what other forms these notes could take, and how I could make them accessible to my entire family while I was away.

Inspiration
I was smitten with Berg’s Little Printer. It’s really a shame that the company shut down their operations last year. I never got around to purchasing a printer for myself (the price was a bit too steep for me) but I thought the industrial design of the printer was top notch, and the service itself seemed to have a lot of promise. I’d love to create something similar, and you’ll see me reference Little Printer throughout my explorations.
